The Story Behind Our Name

I am frequently asked, “What is Pitchfork Flare?" To make a long story short, it is the brand that has been in my family for over a hundred years. My family has called Tatum, NM home for over a hundred years. Due to this, I figured I better do some explaining for all the locals that knew my Papa, Tommy Price, called the brand, L Spear. When I was cleaning out Mattie’s (my great grandmother) town house, I discovered the original paperwork that went to the Tatum’s 50th Anniversary Plate. Upon inspection, I discovered that the brand’s original name was in fact, Pitchfork Flare. While I agree with my Papa that it is not a good name for a cattle brand, I thought it had a much better ring, than L Spear, for a Boutique!

Meet the Owner

Hi there! My name is Chanley. I'm a small town, ranch girl and momma of my 3yr old,  Taysee! If you don't know her already, her following is bigger on Facebook than mine is and I'm sure she'll pop up in some product images too! I grew up in Tatum, NM with a long line of family heritage here. My Nannie, Bobbie Milford, had the original and only boutique in Tatum called "The Ragbox" years and years ago! Other than the Family Dollar, there was currently no where to shop in Tatum and the decision was made to change that! I LOVE supporting locals as well as handcrafted items, so I decided to include all the local talent from Tatum as well! With such a variety of items, we are bound to have something that you won't be able to live without! Take a look around and if there's anything you need or have questions about, please let us know!

Why Shop Pitchfork Flare?

Why shop Pitchfork Flare?

Tatum, NM is a pretty remote, very small (pop 849) town on Hwy 380. For being such a small town, there have been amazing artists from here!

Some include:

Curtis Fort, famous for his Bronzes but his pencil artwork is just as amazing!

Poor Boys Metal Art, Juan Carbajal, known for the metal art seen everywhere all over Southeast NM!

Now closed, Danny Stevens Photography was known for the high quality photographs of the local ranching industry.

Now closed, there was Westcraft Metal Art, Tex Welch

Now closed, there was Betty’s Lamp Studio known for her amazing painting on high end glass lamps.

The amazing artists don’t stop there and the tradition still continues in Tatum to this day!

I wanted to provide a business opportunity for local artists to have a storefront, website and business without all of the overhead that is just not affordable. When you shop at Pitchfork Flare, you are shopping the smallest of small businesses but you get the amazing handcrafted items at an affordable price!
